Greetings Inquisitor Caine,

May I applaud your works in undoing the machinations of the heretic “Jack of Knives” and the cabal-conspiracy therein. I am saddened to hear of the loss of Interrogator Schrödinger, a most valued servant of the God-Emperor is lost in the prosecution of this dire heresy!

Unfortunately our Segmentum remains ill-at-rest…

Urgent messages to Inquisitorial assets Loki and Vidar sectors have gone unanswered – Astrotelepathy difficult in main shipping lanes, with distress message from Draco system (cross ref: Safehold) last known contact. Nil Inquisitorial assets available in vicinity of Safehold to assess. Sword-class frigate “Fourth Horseman” lost with all souls while investigating recent transport disappearances.

Presumed local system broadcast (??Distress message) included below – context unclear:

“Underlings – Praise be the God Allfather! The six-armed Lord of the Swarm descends! The shadow of his benevolence and hunger falls upon us! He thirsts and must be fed! Strike at your masters! Strike! For the Shadow must rise and the lands prepared for the Lord’s divine spores to arrive. Slay the un-believer at thy bosom. Burn the works of the Maggot-King. Run his lackeys to the ground! Let none deny His holy hunger…”

In context of above, reasonable query raised over potential civil unrest in locality of imperial assets, most importantly Mithril mines, Promethium factorum and Soylent farms. Obviously, system unrest and delay of mine and fuel shipments to Loki forgeworld, and Hydra ship-construction facilities cannot be tolerated. Soylent processing facility must continue to supply local systems and Karthago sector. Mechanicus system lords of Karthago and Badab sector forces concerned over destabilising effect the loss of these assets has on Maelstrom conflict zone as a whole. (cross ref: Astartes Lord-Captain Huron/Lufgt – Tyrant of Badab/Crusade of Maelstrom/Lamenters fleet supply)

Messages and declarations of independence (cross ref: Cult of the All-Father, cross ref: Swarm of the Lord) do not tally with previous experience of loyalist sympathies. Imperial assets likely under duress – nil contact from local Adeptus Arbites station-house. Safehold Imperial Guard garrison recently re-assigned per system Governor orders (cross re: query anti-pirate interdiction). Nil Adeptus Munitorium assets in sector to authorise such a substantial movement of war-materiel.

On review – Inquisition lords Ultima Segmentum concerned that transfer of planetary defence/local policing must be considered mendacious. Furthermore, no contact from Safehold forces queried to be in transit to interdiction actions. As such, Safehold forces must be considered lost. Local rumours of “Space Kraken” at system jump point at this point are considered hysterical untruth.

In light of above – system lord Badab sector suggests urgent retask of local Imperial Guard forces to attend. Nearest vessel agreed to be “Pride of Babad” (cross ref: “Lunar-class” vessel) containing elements of 13th Badab Heavy Infantry (cross ref: Tyrant’s Dogboys/The Dead Men/Lucky Thirteenth), Savlar Penal Battalion, and Adeptus Mechanicus support units. 13th Badab recently completed anti-pirate operations against reiver-Eldar forces and heretek abominations in Endymion straits (cross ref: Maelstrom conflict zone) with assistance of 6th Chapter taskforce.

Mission profile agreed – forces will be retasked urgently. Imperial Guard forces briefed. Search and rescue if possible, all assets expendable currently. If superior forces identified – urgent intelligence and reconnaissance. Mithril mine, and associated spaceport facility landing zone priority.

In your eternal service,

Inquisitor Roth, Ultima Segmentum Ordos Xenos 751.M41
